A youth advocate in Center is helping kids move from the couch to the football field this summer. The Dwight Preston football camp at Roughrider Stadium is scheduled for Saturday, June 9.
Each year Preston invites college and pro football players to coach kids during the free day of camp. Some of the players on hand include:
-Former Nacogdoches high school player Kendall Hill, who continued his career at Southern Arkansas, followed by time in both the Canadian Football League and NFL.
-Robert Richards of Center, now a coach himself.
-Marlin McClure of Tenaha, now at UT- El Paso.
The free camp gets started at 8:00 a.m. Saturday morning and continues until 2:30 p.m.
Anyone interested in picking up a sign-up form can do so at the Light and Champion newspaper office on the square in Center. Those interested in signing up their children can also call Preston at (936) 598-2470.
