SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

Friday, the search continues for two men who fled police after a routine traffic stop earlier in the evening.

The chase started near the Villages in Smith County. They drove up FM 2661 then eventually turned right onto Highway 64, then left onto County Road 47.

"I was on FM 2661 near the Villages. I saw a white Dodge pickup passing in a no passing zone. I tried to stop the vehicle, but the vehicle failed to stop for me," said Trooper Richard Hoover.

The pickup took off and led Trooper Hoover on a chase that led to County Road 47.

"Eventually, the driver stopped the vehicle abruptly and bailed out on foot here in the woods. We lost trail of him somewhere in the woods," said Trooper Hoover.

Officials say by the time backup arrived on the scene, the passenger and the pickup truck were gone.

Two men, a white male driver and a black male passenger. Trooper Hoover caught a glimpse of the white male as he took of into the woods.

"The white male had possibly a camouflage shirt on and I believe maybe brown shorts on. Unknown on the black male who drove off in the truck; he drove off in a single cab Dodge pickup," Trooper Hoover said.

The license plate number for the white 2001 Dodge pickup is BL38172.

A truck authorities say is reported stolen. As the investigation continued into the night, police believed they have identified the white male. When authorities went to notify the owner of the truck, they say they found the suspect's car parked in her driveway.

With daylight fading, authorities have called off their search, but with one man believed to have been identified and the other driving a stolen vehicle, troopers believe they will find their men.
