WEB EXCLUSIVE: Facebook yard sales gaining popularity

Posted: Updated:

LEE COUNTY, GA -  There's a new trend gaining popularity on Facebook among south Georgia internet users. Many people are selling their belongings on online yard sales.

The process is simple: you take a picture of your item, post it to a facebook page with many potential buyers.

Then, they message you about a price. A Lee County woman who runs an organizing company says the online yard sale reaches a big audience in a more efficient way than a traditional yard sale.

"It is profitable because there are a lot of people who want to get rid of their stuff, but they don't have time to have a yard sale," said Kim Pittman with Organize 4U. "They don't have enough stuff to have a yard sale. It is a great tool to get rid of things they don't want. It is also a great tool for them to de-clutter their homes."

An online yard sale page for Lee and surrounding counties has almost 3,000 people. That page was started around ten months ago.
