Lufkin nursing home abuser gets 10 years

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - A judge sentenced a former Lufkin nursing home worker Monday who assaulted an elderly patient to 10 years in prison after determining he violated several terms of his probation.

Telesforo Vasquez III, 26, pleaded guilty to a charge of injury to the elderly in August, following a November 2010 arrest.

District Judge Barry Bryan did not accept a plea bargain during a hearing on Monday, but did read the charges to Vasquez. Vasquez admitted to drinking alcohol, leaving the county without permission, being in close proximity to a minor, possession pornographic images and using the Internet, all violations of his probation.

Vasquez's probation officer, Lisa Page, then took the stand and said she did not feel there had been any progression in Vasquez since he went on probation.

Bryan then announced a 10-year prison sentence for Vasquez.

According to Lufkin Police, Vasquez exposed his genitals to a 91-year-old female resident of a Lufkin nursing home facility and directed her to touch his genitals. When the resident refused, Vasquez forced her down, causing injury to her hip and buttock area.
