After being reassigned by Central Heights ISD, long time baseball coach Craig Fuller and dozens of supporters expressed their concern over the situation Monday at a CHISD board meeting.
Fuller told KTRE last week that he was reassigned due to disciplinary issues and the fact that he was ‘unapproachable' to some parents.
Monday night current and former players, parents, and even Fuller himself were allowed time to address the board.
"Coach Fuller is Central Heights baseball," said one supporter during his time in front of the board. "He built this program from nothing."
Some former players also showed up sporting shirts that voiced their support. Phrases from, ‘End of an empire' and ‘start of a downfall' were scattered throughout the administration building.
The meeting ended with no change in the original decision. Fuller expressed that he remains comfortable with the way he went about coaching the Blue Devils baseball team, and is happy to be moving forward with his life.
"I can move on with the next phase, my wife and I have started to play golf together and enjoy each other's company and I'm at peace," said Fuller after Monday's meeting. "I know that I have never done a kid wrong out here. I have never played politics I have always played to win."
One Central Heights graduate and ex player says he doesn't know if he can still support the Blue Devils after coach Fuller's reassignment.
"If Fuller is not the coach then I don't want Central Heights baseball to succeed anymore," said former player Hunter Haley. "Even if coach Fuller doesn't get his job back they still know that everybody is against it and it's a terrible decision."
No members of the board were allowed to comment on the decision or Monday's meeting. However, Central Heights Superintendent Jeremy Glenn did release a statement:
"Last week I made the decision to reassign Craig Fuller as head baseball coach for Central Heights High School. This decision was made in the best interests of our school district. That is all that we can say at this time since it is a personnel matter. The school is currently looking to fill the vacancy of head baseball coach."
