LAFAYETTE, LA (WAFB) - According to the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Department, a Lafayette man brought his infant child to Women's & Children's Hospital just before 5 p.m. on Monday.
Within one minute of hospital arrival, the infant boy was pronounced dead.
Officials say the infant suffered from heat overexposure after being left in the father's car.
Reports say the father was left in charge of the baby in the morning and was planning to take the child to daycare before work. The father got distracted at work and the baby was left in the car at the father's place of employment.
The infant would have been a year old next month.
The Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Department has not released the name of the family at this time. Charges have not and are not expected to be filed in this case.
