LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Houston County deputies have arrested a Henderson man believed to be responsible for several thefts at various gas well sites in East Texas.
Ricky Schakasky, 26, of Henderson, is charged with state-jail felony theft in at least three different counties -- Houston, Cherokee and Angelina.
According to a press release, Houston County authorities have linked Schakasky to seven battery thefts.
Angelina County Sheriff's Office Inv. Mike Jones said he has confirmed that six of the batteries that Schakasky had were linked to gas well sites in Angelina.
"Those batteries had markings on them so we could link him to them," Jones said. "We're confident the same guy has stolen the other ones, but it's hard to link him to all of them."
According to the press release, Schakasky was caught with 13 batteries in his vehicle.
Jones said it was his understanding that Schakasky would be charged with similar crimes in surrounding counties.
According to a press release from the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, investigators began looking for Schakosky earlier in the week and arrested him outside of a hotel in Jacksonville, after waiting for him for six hours.
