ETX home destroyed by fire after initial fire put out

SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

An East Texas man is left without a home after his house caught fire and was destroyed early Sunday morning.

Saturday afternoon, the house caught fire in the 23-thousand block of Highway 271 just south of Gladewater in Smith County. The homeowner was on his lawn mower when he started having chest pains. He pulled the lawn mower next to the home and that's when officials say the heat from the lawnmower started the house fire.

Gladewater and Winona fire crews responded to the scene and quickly put out the blaze. That fire did destroy one bedroom in the home, but the rest of the home was not damaged.

The homeowner was transported to the hospital Saturday evening.

The home caught fire again early Sunday morning. Officials do not know for sure what happened, but believe the original fire re-kindled. The home was completely destroyed.

The homeowners condition has not been released.
