Lufkin's Little League All-Stars faced Tyler tonight in the district championship. The games are usually 6 innings long, but tonight was a marathon.
The fireworks started early with a Lufkin homerun to tie it at 1-1. But scoring stopped after that as Tyler took a 5-1 lead. Lufkin fought back to tie it and force extra innings. Heading into the bottom of the 11th Tyler led 7-6. But a walk-off home run by Dalton Thompson proved to be the difference as Lufkin won 9-7.
The team is undefeated and have outscored their opponents 65-10. The District Champions will move on to Brenham for Sectionals, with a win there they would head to Tyler for State. A win for Lufkin in Tyler would move them to Waco for the televised Southwest Regionals.
ESPN will carry the Regionals and a win there would send Lufkin to Williamsport for the World Series. It's a long road for the boys, but it started in Lufkin tonight at Morris Frank Park with an extra innings walk-off win.
