NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

A Nacogdoches County man is behind bars for stealing about 60-dollars worth of merchandise from Wal-Mart.

Jesse Lynn Birdwell, 26, of Garrison allegedly went into Wal-Mart in the 4800 block of North Street in Nacogdoches around 1:15 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. According to Lieutenant Tim Garner, of the Nacogdoches Police Department, he tried to leave the store with various stolen items that totaled up to cost around 60-dollars.

Garner says the theft was enhanced to a felony due to previous convictions. Garner says Birdwell is a repeat criminal. Birdwell was taken into custody and booked into the Nacogdoches County Jail.

In an October 2009 KTRE report, Birdwell was indicted for forgery.
