Lufkin and Nacogdoches host huge July 4 celebrations

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) – Fourth of July celebrations are in full swing at Ellen Trout Zoo in Lufkin and at Festival Plaza in Nacogdoches.

Motorists are reminded Loop 287 between Highways 59 and 69 North will be closed starting at 8 p.m. for the Fireworks Extravaganza.  Shuttle buses, including handicapped accessible buses, are available from Lufkin High School to the Expo Center parking lot.  Return buses will be available after the fireworks.

Area residents who are looking for a fun family entertainment celebration are encouraged to drop by.  The event features free entertainment, a water slide, children activities, live music and more which are sponsored by the City of Lufkin and the law offices of Mike Love.  The fireworks will begin at 9:15 p.m.

If you are looking for a fun filled day north of the Angelina River, drop by Brookshire Bros. Freedom Fest at Festival Plaza in Nacogdoches.  The celebration begins at 5 p.m. Families are invited to enjoy delicious festival food, children's activities, The Brookshire Brothers "Star- Spangled Banner Burger Cook-Off," and live music by local bands, Halcyon 5 and 4 on the Floor. The evening will culminate in a dazzling fireworks display sponsored by the Nacogdoches Jaycees beginning 30 minutes after dark. Admission is free.
