Nacogdoches man jailed for assaulting child

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) -

A Nacogdoches man was arrested Wednesday night for assaulting a child.

According to the Nacogdoches Police Department, Jerry Duane Merchant, 27, of Nacogdoches assaulted a nine-year-old child, resulting in injury. Officers report receiving a call about a disturbance at 10:53 p.m. Wednesday. When they arrived on scene, in the 800 block of Oakhill Plaza Drive, the caller told officers Merchant assault the child. The caller did not appear to have injuries or report any injuries.

Merchant was arrested and booked into the Nacogdoches County Jail on a felony charge.
