LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

Lufkin Police Department arrested a man for running back and forth through traffic Wednesday afternoon.

According to the report, officers observed Michael J. Swint, 48, of Lufkin repeatedly running back and forth across the traffic lanes in the 800 block of North Medford Drive. While running, Swint waved a white towel and allegedly disregarded the vehicles that had to brake and change lanes to avoid striking him. Officers on the northbound side of the roadway attempted to gain Swint's attention, but he ignored them and ran across southbound lanes. Officers say he continued waving the towel and ignoring southbound traffic.

When enough officers arrived to cover both sides of the roadway, Swint reportedly ran through a wooded area toward Paul Avenue. Officers arrested Swint in a field, just north of Paul Avenue. When authorities asked him about his actions, Swint allegedly told the officers he was getting exercise.

Swint was arrested on a Class C Misdemeanor charge for crossing at a point other than a crosswalk, and he was booked into the Angelina County Jail.
