Lufkin Loop 287 accident causes some tense moments for drivers

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) – One citation issued, no injuries reported in an accident Thursday afternoon along Loop 287 in Lufkin.

According to a Lufkin Police report, Amanda Weaver, 33, along with two passengers, was driving east on Ellen Trout in the inside lane when James LaRue, 75, towing another vehicle southbound on Spence Street collided. 

The report stated LaRue's vehicle had stopped at a yield sign at the crossover and then proceeded across the eastbound lanes.  LaRue told the investigating officer a vehicle eastbound on Ellen Trout had stopped in the left turn lane, intending to go north on Spence Street.  He said that vehicle had blocked his view and he did not see Weaver's car.

LaRue was cited for failure to yield right of way.  No injuries were reported.
