Sabine Co. Sheriff's Office releases identity of shooting victim

PINELAND, TX (KTRE) -

The Sabine County Sheriff's Office has released the identity of the victim that was allegedly shot by his former stepfather Tuesday.

David Wayne Worrell, 43, of Pineland remains hospitalized, as of Wednesday he was listed in critical condition in a Tyler Hospital.

Deputies with the Sabine County Sheriff's Office arrested the man accused of shooting Worrell Tuesday afternoon.

Billy Mack Dickerson, 78, was identified as the suspect, and according to sheriff's deputies Dickerson is the victim's former stepfather.

Chief Deputy Tony Miller said the preliminary investigation indicates the shooting occurred on Willard James Drive in Pineland around noon.

The victim was taken by helicopter to a Tyler hospital.

According to Sabine County jail staff, Dickerson is being held on a bond of $750,000.
