New bond conditions for ETX dentist accused of killing wife

The East Texas dentist charged with the murder of his wife now has stiffer conditions on his bond.

After Bobby Nichols was indicted Thursday, a Smith County judge denied the district attorney's request to increase Nichols' bond from $750,000 to $1.5 Million. Nichols remains out of jail on bond.

According to court documents, Nichols will now be ordered to:

  • wear an electronic monitoring device
  • abide by a daily curfew from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • remain in Smith County unless granted special travel permission

Nichols is also required to surrender his passport and continue obeying his previous bond conditions. Those conditions forbid him from:

  • consuming alcoholic beverages, drugs or narcotics
  • possessing a firearm, explosive device, deadly weapon or ammunition

Nichols will be required to undergo drug testing every-other week. He is also ordered not to communicate with or go within 500 feet of his wife, Rosiland's, daughter, son-in-law or three grandchildren.

Outisde of the Smith County Courthouse Thursday, Nichols said, "I killed my wife," on camera.

It's a statement similar to the one authorities say Nichols gave to both 911 operators Tyler Police the night of the murder. It was not a statement his Dallas attorney, Bradley Lollar was prepared for him to say in public.

"I don't want to talk about anything regarding the case yet. We haven't investigated it enough to know yet," Lollar said.

Nichols' confession to authorities does not close the case. He still reserves his right to a trial, and if the case makes it to trial, it is expected to happen any time soon.

As of Friday evening, no court dates have been set for Bobby Nichols.
