(RNN) - Aaron Collins was a man who appreciated random acts of kindness, and now even in death he's paying it forward. The Kentucky man's dying wish ended up including a $500 tip for an unsuspecting waitress.
Aside from asking that any debt he owed his parents be repaid, he also had a more unconventional request: go out for pizza and "leave an awesome tip for a waiter or waitress."
Collins, 30, passed away three weeks after his birthday on July 7.
His family sprung into action two days after his death. His brother created a website to help spread Collins' spirit of goodwill and collect money for his wish.
Donations came pouring in and the family had enough money to give out a $500 tip after only a couple days.
The family went out to dinner at Puccini's Italian restaurant in Lexington, KY, and gave the tip to an unsuspecting waitress. They recorded the dinner and posted her reaction on YouTube.
"You know, I'm going to be telling this story for the rest of my life," the waitress said.
Since the family made their initial gift, people are still making donations to help give generous tips in Collins' memory.
"We think he just wanted to provide a random act of kindness and generosity for someone he thought was under appreciated - the kind of thing that would make a lasting impression," said Collins' brother on his YouTube site.
On Friday, Collins' brother announced the website received over $10,000 in one day. The family announced they have received enough money to give 23 more people plus-sized tips. They will continue to leave $500 in gratuity until the donations run out.
"Even in my wildest dreams, I imagined we would receive [only] enough money to do this for 2 waiters or waitresses," said Collins' brother in a blog post. "What has happened is absolutely incredible."
