SFA student auditioning for 'American Idol'

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - An SFA student wants to be the next American Idol.

Whitney Wright has won the opportunity to go directly before "American Idol" producers.

Friday, in Oklahoma City, Wright won't waste any time standing in line to audition.

She'll go directly into the audition room.

The Houston native eventually wants to sing for the judges.

"You have to basically get through the producers first and if they like you then the judges can hear you, so I have to try to impress the Fox producers first, so hopefully I can," Wright said.

Wright learned by accident she could sing.

She wanted to join the high school band, but her mother insisted on choir.

It could be the social work student's ticket to stardom.
