ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

The Angelina County Sheriff's Office is charging a Huntington woman accused of punching her common-law husband while he was holding their seven-month-old child.

Jessica Smith Cardenas, 18, is charged with state-jail felony endangering a child.

According to an arrest warrant affidavit, the investigation began on June 11, in connection to an assault/family violence incident on Ford Chapel Road. The affidavit states Cardenas was arrested for assaulting her common-law husband. A witness said the man was holding their seven-month-old child during the assault and had to turn while holding the child to shield the child from being struck by Cardenas while she was striking the man with her closed fist.

A warrant was obtained for her arrest on July 16. She was booked into the Angelina County Jail on Thursday, where she is being held without bond, as of 9 a.m. Friday.
