NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Anticipation is building over the expected opening of Lake Naconiche in Nacogdoches County. The hype is especially high among bass anglers who are tired of seeing "Fishing Prohibited" signs around the lake.
The parks board is recommending a lottery for the first two weeks the lake is opened. There's speculation anxious boaters will be lined to the highway wanting to wet a hook.
Located 13 miles northeast of the city of Nacogdoches, Lake Naconiche is primarily a flood prevention reservoir and is slated to open in September.
After some debate, it was decided that 30 names will be drawn each day. The idea will be presented to the nacogdoches county commission on Tuesday for consideration.
There's no official opening date yet, but it could be as early as September.
