EAST TEXAS (KTRE) - The warnings continue about all those dead trees we're seeing across East Texas. The Texas Forest Service is warning homeowners of their potential liability if a dead tree on their property falls and damages other people's property.
County commissioners and judges are asking regional planners if there's any money available for the removal of the drought killed trees. Deep East Texas Council of Governments (DETCOG) warns county commissioners they can not go onto private property to help homeowners with the dead trees, even if they may damage a neighbor's home, utility lines or public roads.
DETCOG is asking the state to re-designate some funds so the threats can be alleviated.
