LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - A Lufkin woman is behind bars for stabbing and cutting her husband, following a disturbance.
According to the Lufkin Police Department, officers responded to a call from the Memorial Hospital emergency room for a stabbing victim around 5:30 a.m. Sunday morning. The victim stated his wife, Vanessa Zapata, 30, of Lufkin, stabbed him with a knife at their home in the 500 block of South Third Street.
The report says that Jose told police that an early morning argument with his wife erupted after he confronted her about not being at home. Jose told officers the argument escalated, and his wife started punching him in the face. Jose says when he grabbed her and tried to defend himself, Zapata picked up a sharp object, possibly a knife, and stabbed him in the back left shoulder and cut him in his left front chest.
Before the call from the emergency room came in, officers responded to a call from the home at 4:44 a.m. about Zapata causing a disturbance. When the officer arrived, he made contact with Zapata, who was yelling and screaming. It was also discovered that she had an outstanding warrant for her arrest, issued by the City of Lufkin Municipal Court for three traffic warrants. Zapata was arrested on those charges. After responding to the call of the assault, Zapata was also charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
