Police release identity of man killed in auto pedestrian wreck

Posted: Updated:

A major Tyler roadway had numerous lanes closed early Monday morning because of an auto pedestrian fatality accident.

Two northbound and two southbound lanes of 110 Troup Highway were closed between Shiloh and Thistle while police investigated the cause of the wreck.

According to Tyler Police, a Kia Sorento driven by 58-year-old Susan Helgesen of Tyler was traveling northbound on Troup Highway around 4:40 am, when it struck 41-year-old David Wayne Bickerdike. Bickerdike was attempting to cross the roadway mid-block and not at a crosswalk when he was hit. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say Helgesen did not see Bickerdike because it was dark and he was wearing dark clothing.

No citation was issued.
