Car, grass fire slowing Interstate traffic

Posted: Updated:
SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

A tire blowout led to a grass fire off of Interstate 20, and is causing a real headache for motorists.

Westbound traffic on I-20 is very slow near mile marker 546, as all through traffic is being diverted through a weigh station to avoid the active scene.

Authorities say an 18-wheeler blew a tire, hit the median before coming to rest on the westbound shoulder of Interstate 20.

The tire blowout ignited a small vehicle fire, which spread and caused a small grass fire.

Mile marker 546 is one exit west of Highway 110, near the Stallion Lakes Community.

Motorists are advised to find alternate routes.

Heavy smoke has been reported in the area.
