SFA senior Louw, South Africa tie Japan

Posted: Updated:

CARDIFF, Wales – In perhaps one of the most surprising results of the 2012 Summer Olympics, Stephen F. Austin senior midfielder Kylie Louw and her South Africa national team played the reigning World Cup champion Japan to a 0-0 draw Tuesday at Millennium Stadium.

Louw, the reigning Southland Conference back-to-back Player of the Year, played the entire match for a third consecutive game before being substituted prior to stoppage time. Japan outshot South Africa 16-6 but just 3-2 shots on goal.

South Africa, who earned their first-ever point in Olympic competition, entered the match having already been eliminated from the medal round after losses to Sweden (4-1) and Canada (3-0).

Louw finished the Olympic games by playing a combined 270 minutes while attempting one shot on goal and a foul.

Louw joins Kevin Ellis as the only two Olympians in SFA history. Ellis finished 17th in the men's skeleton at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turbin, Italy.
