Stolen garbage cans send warning to Nacogdoches residents

Posted: Updated:

As many as thirty city issued garbage cans were taken from Nacogdoches residents living off of Raguet street. Immediately, the users feared identity theft.

As it turns out, the public works department located all the cans in the area. The trash was still in them.

It's likely a prank, but still a good reminder to be careful what you throw away.

"People should really keep in mind that once you discard garbage you have no expectation of any privacy in what's in that can," warned Sgt. Greg Sowell with the Nacogdoches Police Department.

Sowell advises confidential material should be shredded.
