MARSHALL, TX (KLTV) -

A contract worker died from injuries he sustained from being electrocuted while working on an East Texas college campus.

On Wednesday, 41-year-old Michael Noel, an employee of the Fason Tree Service, was cutting a tree that had been struck by lightning, that was in the process of being removed from the East Texas Baptist University campus, when he was electrocuted.

Authorities say the man was in a scissor lift with a bucket, cutting the tree with an extension saw, when he hit the electrical lines while up in the tree.

Marshall Police and Fire, along with AEP SWEPCO officials responded to the scene after the accident.

ETBY President Dr. Dub Oliver released the following statement on the man's death:

The East Texas Baptist University community mourns the tragic accidental death on our campus, and we join together in praying for his family and friends as they walk through these difficult days

The accident happened near Marshall Hall, off of Rainey Street and North Grove.

An autopsy is pending.
