The Lumberjacks football team takes the field for day one of camp. Head coach JC Harper says this years team has a different feel than last year's 6-5 squad. Thanks to the veteran leadership of quarterback Brady Attaway.
Last year the Lumberjacks came into camp as back to back defending Southland Conference champions, but they were in search of a quarterback. This season they have their starter, as Attaway beat out Dalton Williams in 2011 for the job. Coach JC Harper says that makes this team a lot more confident in 2012.
"Last year at this time we were trying to figure out whether it was going to be Dalton or whether it was going to be Brady," said Harper. That is not really a lot of fun. Now we are at the point where Brady is our quarterback, that obviously make things more fun more exciting."
Harper was extremely impressed with Attaway's work during spring ball.
"We thought he had the talent and he showed it this spring and took command," said Harper. "If he can do that same thing during the season it is going to be really exciting because he has a lot of talent."
There are just 27 days now until the 'Jacks start the season against Southwestern Oklahoma. That game is set for Thursday, August 30th, at Homer Bryce Stadium in Nacogdoches.
