ROCK HILL, SC (WBTV) - A woman is in jail today after she left her 1-year-old son in some bushes by her mother's house, police say.
According to the Rock Hill Police Department, officers responded to a call about a neighbor finding the baby boy in the bushes in front of a home on Furr Street in Rock Hill around 2:50 a.m. Thursday morning.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found the boy strapped into a stroller that had been pushed into the bushes. The officers then knocked on the door and spoke with the homeowner, 61, and her daughter, 36. The 36-year-old told officers that her daughter, Kelly Denise Cameron, 20, had called her to ask if she could leave her son with her, and that she had told her no.
Cameron's mother and grandmother did not know the boy had been left outside, according to police.
A diaper bag with Cameron's wallet, cell phone, Social Security card, and some supplies for the baby was also found sitting at the back door, and police were not sure if the 20-year-old mother had been kidnapped.
Police then entered Cameron into the National Crime Information Center as a missing person.
At 8 a.m., police found Cameron at her grandmother's house on Furr Street. She confessed to everything, and said that she had left the baby to meet with her boyfriend, police say.
Kelly Denise Cameron was charged with unlawful neglect of a child. She is being held at the York County Detention Center on a $50,000 bond, according to police.
