SAN AUGUSTINE COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -
Deputies with the San Augustine County Sheriff's Office arrested
a man accused of punching his pregnant girlfriend while she was driving with
their son in the vehicle early Sunday.
According to the report, Vernon Jacob Hopson, 21, was a
passenger in the vehicle and was intoxicated. His pregnant girlfriend of five
years reported that she told him she knew he was having an affair. He became
angry with her and punched her in the right jaw, causing her to swerve in the
road. Their child was also in the vehicle with them.
The girlfriend reported Hopson told her he hated her and he
wanted to kill her and he would do it if he could get away with it, according
to the report.
They arrived home on State Highway 103 and Hopson then got
into his pickup, according to the report. The girlfriend, concerned about him
driving because he was intoxicated, tried to talk him into staying. She said
she had her knees on the running board, and Hopson punched the gas, causing her
to fall off the vehicle.
Hopson assaulted her more by slamming her head into the
gravel, according to the report.
Deputies arrested Hopson on Tuesday, on charges of
second-degree aggravated assault family violence, state-jail felony child
endangerment and misdemeanor A deadly conduct.
