SAN AUGUSTINE COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Deputies with the San Augustine Sheriff's Office arrested a man accused of a history of abuse of his three children Tuesday afternoon.
According to Chief Deputy Gary Cunningham, a member of the extended family reported the abuse to the sheriff's office. Authorities brought in the three children, aged 15, 13 and 7, and interviewed them.
The charges, third-degree injury to a child and misdemeanor A assault/family violence, are in connection to an incident a week ago, Cunningham said, when Ricky Anthony Lara, 42, of San Augustine, abused the 13-year-old son and the 15-year-old daughter. The son suffered a lacerated lip and the daughter scratches on her legs. The son said he held a knife to his throat and "said he was going to teach him how to kill someone."
All three children said he has physically abused them before.
Cunningham said he went to the residence off of US Highway 96 Tuesday to arrest Lara and found the house to be in "horrid conditions."
