ZAVALLA, TX (KTRE) -

Tuesday night's Zavalla City Council meeting voted not to renew the appointment of the municipal judge, Bruce Milstead, in a three to two vote.

However, Milstead says that vote may not be legal, since the council can't provide the original date Milstead was appointed as judge nearly two decades ago. Milstead says in a special called meeting on Thursday, the council discussed hiring an attorney and the position of municipal judge.

"They discussed my position and discussed me," said Milstead.

He says he requested to discuss his position in an open forum, but that request was not acknowledged.

"They held a meeting to appoint me or not appoint me," said Milstead.

He says the vote about his position was the only item on the agenda in a less than five minute long meeting.
