Man wanted for robbery in Harris County wounded in Lufkin shooting incident

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) – Lufkin Police have arrested a man wanted for robbery in Harris County after being wounded in a shooting incident in Lufkin.

Police say they responded to a ‘shots fired' call at 104 Burke Street early Saturday morning and found Darren Dewayne Thomas, Jr., 20, Lufkin, had been shot. 

A police report states Thomas had a gunshot wound to his right calf.  Witnesses reported the shooter had fled the scene prior to the officer's arrival.  Thomas was taken to Woodland Heights Hospital where he was treated and released. 

Following his release from the hospital, Thomas was taken into custody for a felony warrant for robbery out of Harris County.  Police say the shooting incident occurred at the 'Play by Play' Club at around 3:44 a.m. 

The case is still under investigation.
