LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

A judge has approved sentences for a Moscow man and a Lufkin man who each drove intoxicated with children passengers earlier this summer.

Daniel Slyvester Flores, 24, of Moscow, accepted a four-year probation sentence while Miguel Barrientos, 51, of Lufkin, accepted an 180-day state-jail sentence.

A trooper arrested Flores on July 10 after he had been driving drunk with a two-year-old child in the car with him. The trooper stopped Flores after it was reported he was driving recklessly on US 59 in Diboll at no more than 20 miles per hour.

Lufkin Police arrested Barrientos on Jun 17 following a two-vehicle wreck. According to the report, officers responded to the wreck on the 700 block of Atkinson Drive. The arrested Barrientos after they determined he was at fault and driving drunk with three boys aged 3, 9 and 10.

Judge Gerald Goodwin approved both sentences.

More than a few tar-covered tires are hanging on to the parking lot of a Lufkin tire shop.  On August 31, newly laid asphalt on Loop 287 started sticking to tires of those driving, leaving many of the cars un-driveable. As of Friday, the Texas Department of Transportation hadn't come out with an official cause for the incident, but that hasn't stopped over 600 people from filing claims with them.
