Carthage, Texas (KLTV) - The newest member of the Carthage Bulldogs is a big one.
A real big one.
At more than 50 feet tall and 58 feet wide, Carthage's new scoreboard/video board is one of the biggest, not only in the state, but in the country for high schools.
The video board itself is 1,200 square feet and will feature replays and live video along with advertisements during games.
The board was funded at a value of $750,000 after a school bond was passed earlier this year.
It has become a big attraction for the town.
"The kids go crazy along with the coaches," said head coach Scott Surratt. "You ought to see the people that drive by and look at it."
The board saw its first action last week.
"We turned the screen on last Friday night, we were out scouting but when we got back there was a line of cars in the parking lot to see it," sais Surratt.
Surratt says the scoreboard is just the beginning to some big changes in Carthage.
"We will have a full-size indoor facility next summer, so we have some good things going on here in Carthage."
Now they're hoping their good things on the field will mean good things on the scoreboard.
"It's a really nice thing to have, so now we are focused on lighting that thing up every night."
Surratt expects the new board to be up and ready when the Bulldogs start the year on August 31st when they host Gladewater.
