NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - Dr. Nina Ellis-Hervey successfully maintains a professor demeanor at Stephen F. Austin State University's Human Services Department, even though the psychology professor is known by blog followers, and now readers of People Magazine as 'BeautifulBrownBabyDol.

"BeautifulBrownBabyDol has many roots," laughed Ellis-Hervey.

We'll get to that in a moment, but first how did Dr. Ellis-Hervey end up in People Magazine wearing a bikini, something she admits was at first was pretty intimidating.

It turns out People Magazine discovered Ellis-Hervey through her highly successful blog on staying fit. ( )  People was hunting for five individuals who successfully lost at least 100 pounds. At her heaviest Ellis-Hervey weighed 235 pounds. Today she is slim and fit and has maintained her well toned body for six years. It all started when she decided to put mind over body fat.

" I wasn't as happy with my self confidence wise. Now, I knew if I fixed that then I probably could fix this weight problem," said Ellis-Hervey.

Then Ellis-Hervey decided to get physical.

"I went on and purchased Weight Loss For Dummies and Fitness For Dummies. I bought the older versions they had available, about 99 cents each," recalled Ellis-Hervey.

From there the graduate student put some of her research skills to work and over time developed her own fitness plan. " I won't give anyone a formula for losing weight. I will tell them what worked for me and guide them into developing a method that works best for them," said Ellis-Hervey.

The professor learned it takes discipline to maintain her weight, so each morning she begins her day on the SFA track. She calls it "Nina time. That time is not to be disturbed by anyone. That's my time for running. That's my time for running up and down stairs. That's my time for lifting weights. That's my time to think about any stressors in life that I'm getting rid of." Ellis-Hervey devotes an hour and half, six days of the week to what's become a part of her lifestyle.

The pesco vegetarian, which allows a diet of fish, splurges from time to time on cravings. " I did not want to diet," said Ellis-Hervey.

The professor who blogs about natural hair and makeup describes herself as "three dimensional", which goes back to BeautifulBrownBabyDol.

"BeautifulBrownBabyDol, that's three and 'Dol', is dimensional," explained Ellis-Hervey. "Beautiful does not necessarily mean beauty from the outside. It's earning the beauty from within. I'm brown clearly. Dolls are played with; they're mishandled; they're passed down through the years; they go through rough times," said Ellis-Hervey.

But today Ellis-Hervey is feeling "absolutely special" and wants others to experience it too.
