Angelina Co. Commissioner hospitalized after major heart attack

ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

Angelina County Commissioner Rick Harrison remains hospitalized after a major heart attack Monday.

Harrison is currently in critical, but stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit at Lufkin Memorial Medical Center, according to hospital staff.

Angelina County Judge Wes Suiter said the Precinct One Commissioner was waiting to be transferred to a Houston hospital for a higher level of care.

In the May primary, Republicans in Precinct One voted to return Harrison to the ballot for the November general election, facing Democrat Greg Tucker.

He left the Democratic Party in January 2011 and joined the GOP after a sweep of Angelina County elections.

Harrison previously served as a Lufkin Police detective.
