Nacogdoches Co. constable fighting for pay raise amid cuts

NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

More changes may be in store for the Nacogdoches County budget. Friday, Precinct 3 Constable Roger Dudley got approval to move a salary grievance to the next step.

Dudley is asking for about $6,000 more a year.

The request is based on what he calls "ongoing and escalating inequities" in constable pay.

"It was an even scale from 1991 to until two years ago and for the first time since 1991 the scale became uneven," Dudley said. "I'm just seeking to try to get it even again."

The longest-serving constable wants an annual salary of $43,000 plus an $1,800 certificate pay.

There wasn't a unanimous vote so the issue will go before the Nacogdoches County Commissioners for consideration.
