Tree falls on, kills logger in Cherokee County

CHEROKEE COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

A Henderson logger died after a tree he was cutting fell on top of him near Alto Sunday afternoon.

According to a press release, the call came in to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office around 2:55 p.m. as a logging accident on State Highway 21 East at the Angelina River bridge.

Douglass firefighters and Nacogdoches EMS responded to the scene to find Jimmy Charles Young Jr., 38, of Henderson, dead.

According to the report, Young was working with other loggers and clearing trees on property, owned by an Alto man, when a large tree fell on top of him. A co-worker used equipment to move the tree while another called 911.

An autopsy has been ordered. The case is still under investigation.
