Panola County reports first West Nile death

PANOLA COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

An East Texas County is reporting its first West Nile death.

According to the Texas Department of State Health Services, the first West Nile death in Panola County was reported Wednesday evening.

The county has two total cases at this time, One West Nile fever and one West Nile Neuroinvasive Disease.

The total number of deaths in Texas from West Nile Virus is 34.

The total number of West Nile Virus cases in Texas is 894, over half the nationwide cases.
