Barn a total loss after catching fire near Arp

ARP, TX (KLTV) -

A barn is left in rubble after it caught fire Sunday afternoon near Arp.

The barn is located off of County Road 257, just south of Highway 64.

Arp fire crews quickly responded to the scene, but were unable to save the barn. Six brush trucks, three engines and a plow kept the fire from spreading to a nearby home, but surrounding acreage was lost.

Firefighters do not have a total estimate, but say they got a good handle on the fire before it spread to nearby forestry.

"Right now, even though we've had some rain, I encourage everyone to be careful with outside burning. We don't know the exact cause of this; the fire marshal will have to make a determination on that," said Johnny Brown, President of the Smith County Fireman's Association.
