NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX (News Release) -

After he was allegedly caught in the act of stealing a generator early Saturday morning, a 31-year-old Nacogdoches man was arrested on a felony theft charge.

Thomas Wayne Dison, 31, of Nacogdoches, is still being held in the Nacogdoches County Jail. The theft charge is a state-jail felony, and Dison's bond has been set at $100,000.

According to a press release, Precinct 4 Constable Jason Bridges spotted a vehicle parked on the side of the road in Woden at approximately 2:38 a.m. Saturday. He noticed that a man was trying to load something into the vehicle's passenger seat.

Bridges stated that he stopped to check on the man because he thought Dison might be having car trouble. However, when the constable walked up to the vehicle, he noticed the man trying to load a portable generator into it. Further inspection revealed obvious marks "from where the generator had been dragged from a residence, through a pasture, and to where the suspect's vehicle was parked on the side of the road," the press release stated.

When confronted with the evidence, Dison confessed that he was in the act of stealing the generator, the press release stated. The suspect was arrested at the scene and transported to the Nacogdoches County Jail. The generator was returned to its owner.

The Pct. 4 Constable's Office has been conducting extra patrols in the Woden area for the last week because of a number of recent thefts.

"We are hoping this investigation will help clear up some of those thefts," Bridges said in the press release.

More than a few tar-covered tires are hanging on to the parking lot of a Lufkin tire shop.  On August 31, newly laid asphalt on Loop 287 started sticking to tires of those driving, leaving many of the cars un-driveable. As of Friday, the Texas Department of Transportation hadn't come out with an official cause for the incident, but that hasn't stopped over 600 people from filing claims with them.
