Tyler Police investigating attempted robbery, purse snatching

TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

Tyler Police are investigating an attempted robbery and purse snatching outside of a Tyler store on Tuesday morning.

Authorities say a black male in his early 20s, about 6' tall with a thin build, wearing a gray shirt with a black garment wrapped around his neck, walked into the Payless Shoes store in the 3800 block of Highway 64 West, displayed a handgun, and advised the clerk it was a robbery.

During the attempted robbery, a woman walked into the shoe store. Officials say the suspect became nervous, snagged the woman's purse and fled.

Officials say the suspect drove away from the scene in a dark green, possibly a Ford Explorer.

No license plate number was available.

There were no injuries in the incident.

A video of the robbery is expected to be released sometime Tuesday afternoon. Stay tuned to KLTV and KLTV.com for the latest.
