SAN AUGUSTINE, TX (KTRE) -

Authorities out of Washington state have decided to extradite a sex offender arrested in San Augustine County on child sex violations.

San Augustine County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Gary Cunningham said he was told of the decision Tuesday morning.

Sherman Clay Roberts, 58, has three warrants for his arrest out of Washington; two for rape of child and one for failure to register as a sex offender.

Washington authorities learned of the arrest Monday and met with prosecutors about whether or not to extradite Roberts.

Deputies arrested Roberts Friday after learning he was living in the county and had the outstanding warrants dating back to 1992.

"It's my understanding he's been living here for several years and has been a good citizen," Cunningham said. "But I've learned that people wanted for crimes come to places which don't have much law enforcement."
