NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - Nacogdoches Police officers arrested a 19-year-old Henderson man Tuesday for an alleged sexual assault that occurred at a party at a residence on Cardinal Street on Sept. 9.
Joseph Case Watts, 19, is still being held in the Nacogdoches County Jail on a second-degree felony charge of sexual assault. His bond has been set at $25,000, according to an arrest affidavit provided by the Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace office.
The affidavit stated that an NPD detective responded to the Nacogdoches Medical Center Hospital on Sept. 9 in reference to a possible sexual assault. When the officer contacted the victim, she told him that she had gone to a party with some of her friends.
The victim recalled that at some point during the course of the party, she was in the bathroom when the "suspect she knew as Case" threw some of her clothes at her. However, according to the affidavit, she doesn't remember anything about the incident.
A Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner did an exam on the young woman and found evidence of "large amounts of trauma" consistent with sexual assault, the affidavit stated. In addition, the NPD detective spoke with a witness who overheard the victim crying and screaming to be left alone while she was behind a closed and locked door with the suspect. When Watts was questioned, he admitted to having sex with the victim, but insisted that it was consensual. He was arrested and charged with sexual assault two days later.
