An argument between a Broaddus man and his wife escalated to the point that he struck her in the head with a beer bottle several times, causing non-life-threatening injuries Wednesday night, according to San Augustine County authorities.

As a result of the alleged assault, Curtis Adkins, 48, of Broaddus, is still being held in the San Augustine County Jail on a second-degree aggravated assault causing bodily injury change. His bond has been set at $15,000, according to Gary Cunningham, the chief deputy for the San Augustine County Sheriff's Office.

Cunningham said that according to the arrest report, Adkins and his wife got into verbal dispute at their residence. At some point, Adkins allegedly took things to the physical level, striking her in the left side of her head several times with a beer bottle.

SACSO deputies took Adkins into custody at the scene and transported him to the county jail.
