Connor Shaw to start against Missouri

South Carolina Head Coach Steve Spurrier made it clear on Tuesday that Connor Shaw will be the starting quarterback on Saturday against Missouri.

Spurrier spoke about Shaw's injury during his weekly news conference. "He'll start, he's fine," said Spurrier. "I think he could have played the second half the other night [against UAB]."

Shaw has been knocked out of two out of three games this season and didn't play in the other.

He was injured with a deep bone bruise in the first game of the season against Vanderbilt. Despite the injury, Shaw finished the game and South Carolina defeated the Commodores 17-13.

The injury kept him out of the second game of the season against East Carolina. Dylan Thompson got the start and threw for 330 yards and 3 touchdowns in the 48-10 victory.

Shaw got the nod last week against UAB, but was forced out of the game in the second quarter when he took a hit and re-aggravated his shoulder.

Spurrier said if there was an opportunity to bring Dylan Thompson in against Missouri, he would.

"Hopefully both of them feel pretty good about each other," said Spurrier. "Maybe our team's more confident because we have two quarterbacks that can play."

Spurrier said the team has accepted the one-game suspension handed down by the SEC against D.J. Swearinger. He also said that Bruce Ellington is fine and will play against Missouri.

The Gamecocks play the Tigers at 3:30 at Williams-Brice Stadium.
