LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -
A Lufkin woman arrested for running over a mall
maintenance man after she stole an $18 hat received five years of probation
after she pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of robbery Tuesday morning.
Tishannah Ross, 30, accepted the plea bargain in the
159th District Court.
The robbery charge is in connection to an incident
that occurred at the Claire's inside the Lufkin Mall. According to an arrest
affidavit, Ross went into the store on March 22, took a hat off the wall, and
placed it on her head. She then pushed the tag under the hat and left the
store.
The manager of Claire's followed Ross through the
mall, the affidavit stated. When the employee tried to get Ross to return the
hat, the woman became confrontational and claimed she had paid for the hat.
After the manager convinced Ross to return to Claire's,
they met mall security and called the Lufkin Police Department. When the
manager tried to get Ross' information, she ran out of the mall and got into a
vehicle, according to the affidavit.
A maintenance man stood behind her car attempting to
get her license plate number. At that point, she backed up at a high rate of
speed and hit the man in the legs, according to the affidavit. The maintenance
man, who suffered bruises near his knees, would have been killed if he had not
moved out of the way, according to the store manager.
Ross left the hat which started the whole
confrontation behind.
After the Lufkin Police Department obtained a
warrant for Ross' arrest on March 29, a Crime Stoppers tip led Department of
Public Safety troopers to her, and they arrested her during a traffic stop.
