First night of Texas State Forest Festival is KTRE Night

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - KTRE Night is Wednesday at the 28th Annual Texas State Forest Festival.

People who donate three canned goods at the KTRE Mobile Studio will receive a voucher for $5 off on the armbands for unlimited rides, which are $20 each. General admission tickets are $6, and children 3 and under are free. Pre-sale tickets can be purchased at participating Brookshire Brothers locations or via the forest festival Web site at

Wednesday night will be the Forest festival's opening night. The festival will continue through Sunday. The hours are 5-10 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, 9 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Sunday, according to the festival link on the Lufkin/Angelina County Chamber of Commerce web site.

In addition to the carnival, the Texas State Forest Festival will feature a variety of entertainment including the Bear Mountain Wildlife Show, a lumberjack show, a children's festival, Washboard Willy, ZOOperstars, the Show-Me Swine Races, Show-Me Petting Zoo, Show-Me Safari Pony Rides, a sleight of hand artist, a Loving Toyota/Scion new car display, stage entertainment, and a scout fair.

The festival also features the East Texas Cheerleading Championship, the East Texas Pom Pon/Dance Competition, the Miss Forest Festival and Little Mr. Timberjack pageant, and the 41st Annual Hushpuppy Championships. Plus, the festival will have various food venders.

According to Thelma Midget Sherman, the Angelina County tax assessor/voter registrar, her office will be hosting a voter registration booth at the Texas State Forest Festival. She said that Oct. 9 will be the last day that people can register to vote in the upcoming November election.
