Rainy Days Don't Have to Keep the Fun Away

Just because it's been a rainy week that doesn't mean the kids have to stay inside and watch television all day. There are many safe activities going on in Lufkin to keep kids busy while the weather is not so nice outside. And who knows, they may learn a thing or two at the same time.

Kids can enjoy a trip to the library where they can read a good book and a whole lot more.

Mary Grider, a children's library coordinator, said, "We have computers that have child friendly software that they can access programs, play games, we will have a lot of magazines like Sports Illustrated for Kids and Nickelodeon."

There is also a children's summer program that might be fun. Every Wednesday through Friday, children are invited to listen to a good story and then enjoy some craft activities at the Kurth Memorial Library in Lufkin.

On Wednesdays, the program begins at 11:00 am where 3 to 6 year-olds are invited to enjoy a story and some craft activities.

On Thursdays, the program begins also begin at 11:00 am but children between the ages of six and nine are invited to attend a book reading and also crafts. At 1:00 PM, children between the ages of 10 and 12 are invited to listen to a story and participate in crafts.

On Fridays, there is always a special guest. On Friday, June 25th Puppetwise Production will be performing a puppet show for anyone interested. They will perform at 11:00 and again at 1:00 p.m.

Every week during the summer these activities will take place except for the week of June 28th.

There are also lots of activities at your local Boys and Girls Club. When it's raining outside the kids are able to go to laser tag, the skating rink, or participate in several indoor activities.

Also the Lufkin Parks and Recreation Department has a lot of summer classes going on if your child is interested in gymnastics, twirling, dance, karate or tennis.
